In 1994, The Denso Wave company established a two demensional bar code which they titled The Quick Response Code, more commonly referred to as the QR Code. These unique codes became a big hit due to their ability to store up to several hundred times more data then a traditional barcode. Throughout the last several years, these matrix barcodes have proved to be extremely useful and convinient tools due to their high speed download capabilities and overall functionality. There is no doubt that these QR Codes have surpassed the traditional barcodes in a variety of ways. Not only do they hold more data, but they also take up less space and are resistent to dirt and damage.

Initially, QR Codes were used to track automobile parts during the manufacturing process. These days, however, these two demensional codes are being used in a much broader context. Although they continue to be used in the field of commercial tracking, they have recently become more popular in the area of mobile marketing. More specifically, it is the QR reading software available (either pre-installed or through an app. download) that has led to the explosion of QR Code marketing across several different industries. In 2002, Japanese innovators developed the idea to enable their new mobile phone cameras to also act as barcode scanners. It was thought that such technology would be capable of instantly connecting users to URL addresses on the internet with the snap of a picture, and what was once a vision has now become reality.

 One of the many highlights of these codes is that they relieve consumers of having to enter tedious information (like specific URL addresses) into their mobile devices in order to access desired information. These days you can find QR Codes almost anywhere and their visibility and success is only anticipated to grow.
